Pumpkin Update! 7/15/17

I've grown my own pumpkins for the last 3 years, and this year's first is almost ready to be cut from the vine! I am growing 3 types this year.

1. The giant kind you see at the fair. When I see the ribbon-winning pumpkins at the fair, my Halloween season officially starts! None of mine are growing on the vines yet, but it is getting flowers and I see bees out there every day.

 2. Mini pumpkins! These I think are technically not pumpkins, but they look just like them! A mini pumpkin is the first one that is almost ready to be picked!

(hand in shot for size reference)

There is a 2nd mini pumpkin about the size of a grape tomato!

3. Regular-sized jack-o-lantern pumpkins! These are the pumpkins I've grown every year! I planted seeds I saved from last year's crop. There are two pumpkins about the size of promotional mini basketballs or a decorative foam skulls from Michael's. They're still as green as watermelons, so they'll be much bigger by the time they're ready to be picked!

I am so excited for Halloween season this year!

Here are all 5 of my Pumpkin Carols (songs I wrote about pumpkins)!

I hope to someday make 7" records of my Pumpkin Digital 7".

Read more about it here!

Two sethifus digital 7"s and a song about guitars!

I wrote a song about guitars used as decorations and how I'd like to take them all home to play.

I also made 2 digital 7" records!

They would be records if I had a bigger following, money, and a label who was interested.

The first is the Pumpkin digital 7"!

Side A: The Pumpkin (album version)

Side B: Jack-o-Lantern (CASIO version)

If a record label decided to start making physical records of this 7" (say Paper + Plastick or Third Man Records, maybe), and I got to do them exactly like I'd want to, I'd put a few real pumpkin seeds from pumpkins I grew inside each record.

I think if they were thoroughly dried out first they would be okay in the middle of vinyl or plastic. For a long while anyway. And if people bought the records soon enough, they might be able to slit the record open (like the Dead Weather's Triple Decker Record), get the seeds out, and plant them to grow their own sethifus-strain pumpkins!

Here's the youtube video playlist version:

The second digital 7" is the Four-Leaf Clover digital 7"!

Side A: Four-Leaf Clover

Side B: I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover That I Overlooked Before

This record would have Four-Leaf Clovers inside of it!

I don't know if the records would bring people luck, but it couldn't hurt!

Here's the youtube video playlist version:

You can find both digital 7"s on my bandcamp page!

They are only $1 each!

Third Man Records, any interest?

3 New Songs! Pumpkins, Hearts, and Giggle Loops!

I need to post things I make right after I make 'em.

Oops...

Pumpkin seeds are sprouting! Soon they'll be vining! And then... HALLOWEEN!!!

A love song. About my wife. Because they all are. Even if the people in the song aren't actually me or my wife.

A song inspired by the BBC comedy "Coupling".

I wrote this a long time ago, but have only just now recorded it, finally.

Please to enjoy all 3 from them!

Pumpkins 2017!

I mowed the lawn today.

And then I planted this year's pumpkin seeds!!!

I planted:

* A row of BIG PUMPKIN seeds! I think this is the closest I'll get to growing State Fair-Worthy Pumpkins.

* Two rows of decorative pumpkins. Some of them might be white!

* A row of seeds I saved from last year's pumpkins!

Hopefully some of them will sprout, vine, and produce pumpkins I can use this fall!

If you want one (when they're actually a grown reality), send me an e-mail at sethifusp@gmail.com. We might be able to work something out.

IT'S HALLOWE'EN SEASON!!!!!

Look at that beautiful header that Geoff made!

IT'S HALLOWE'EN SEASON!!!!!

I love Halloween!

Let's add some new stuff to those old videos I just posted!

Look at my new tattoo! I got it last month!

It's sort of 2 tattoos. I already had Charlie Brown, but the pumpkins were added around him, and he got colored in. So it's basically one big tattoo instead of a tattoo I already had surrounded by a new tattoo.

It was really hard to take that picture with my webcam.

MORE HALLOWE'EN-RELATED STUFF!

I love Ghostbusters!

Old/New, Boy/Girl, Cartoon/Real, Filmation/"Real". It's all good.

I found out from Dinosaur Dracula several weeks ago that Wayback Burgers had some Ghostbuster promo food because of the new Ghostbusters movie coming out on bluray.

After a googlemapsing I found that there was one a couple hours away! Princess Melawesome agreed to go with me and found it!

It's in a mall food court!

I got all 3 items and they were all pretty good!

My favorite part was the shake!

The burger had Ghost Pepper sauce on it, and there was Ghost Pepper sauce for dipping the Mac n Cheese bites. The Ghost Pepper sauce tasted great, but was a bit too hot for me to finish.

I did get a fun Burger Pick thing:

I just checked the Wayback Burgers site and it looks like they're still available! Go get some!

That's all the new Hallowe'en Goodness I have for you so far!

Well, except for this picture I took of myself in the Trader Joe's bathroom because it was October 1st, I was wearing one of my Jack-o-lantern shirts, my hair looked amazing, and I felt cute.

More to come as soon as I get it made or find it!

PS: I read awhile back on Neil Gaiman's tumblr that Halloween is acutally "Hallowe'en"! I like that better. So I'm going to start writing it that way when I remember to!

Day 301 - Jack-o-Lanterns 2015! - 10/30/2015

Today's Thing-a-Days are these:

Princess Melawesome, Jobean, and I all got a pumpkin to carve!

Here's mine:

I went the traditional route. This is a pumpkin I grew in my backyard pumpkin patch!

Here's Princess Melawesome's:

It's name is Thimble! It is also a pumpkin from my patch!

And here's Jobeans!

It's a super-awesome wolf! It's a-howling! This pumpkin was from a trip to a commercial pumpkin patch. It's much bigger than the ones I grew.

Happy Halloween from pondercouch.com!

Day 257 - Halloween Spider (a poem) - 9/15/2015

Scary spider, spun your web

over my pumpkin patch,

The summer season's on the ebb

you watch over this batch.

this batch.

you watch over this batch.

Your solemn guard you stand.

'til Halloween and pumpkins picked

May your web stay strong, each strand

and all of the insects tricked.

'sects tricked.

and all of the insects tricked.

But are your intents unscrupulous?

Your form a fright to see.

I don't mind you being poisonous

if you stay off of me.

of me.

Just stay the fuck off of me.

Day 243 - Homegrown Popcorn! - 9/1/2015

This is the second year I've grown pumpkins in my yard for the Halloween season. But this year is also a year of firsts!

Well, one first.

This year I am also growing popcorn!

Popcorn is my absolute favorite food. And since Orville Redenbacher popcorn is grown in Indiana, I decided to buy some air pop popcorn from the store and try my luck!

Here's the first ear:

I picked it a couple weeks back because the stalk was broken and dying. I think I hit it with the lawn mower. Oops.

It looked like something had gotten to it or it hadn't had a chance to grow all of the corn kernels. But rather than throwing it away I decided to pick it and see how it dried and popped!

Today I saw that another ear looked most of the way dried out.

I picked that too! That one should pop up nicely!

Anyway, back to lil' ear.

I put it in the only paper bag I had and popped it (ha!) in the microwave.

Right after it started cooking I could smell a cooked corn smell that I don't usually get when microwaving popcorn.

Then it started smelling burnt.

It was still popping so I let it keep going until the programmed Popcorn time ran out.

Near the end white smoke started coming out of the bag.

I opened the bag to find...

Most of it popped!

The cob burned up, but the popcorn looked like popcorn!

I tried a couple pieces and, yep, that's popcorn!

I'm so proud of myself!

So proud I recreated my byline banner picture!

I found a new pumpkin today!

So excited!

Here's another picture of me where I'm not making a goofy face.
