Garbage Pail Kids 30th anniversary cards from Topps

On my way out of a local dollar store I stumbled across this!
30th anniversary series Garbage Pail Kids cards!

They come only four to a pack but for only $1 it's a great deal.

On the back of each card/sticker (yes they still double as stickers!) you will find a bit of info on the picture. this is the back of Trekkie Travis. My favorite from this pack.

Here is Trekkie Travis! This is a GPK as reimagined by superstar artist Miran Kim!

And here is Ghastley Ashley. Here you can see moreof the picture over the original because it's zoomed out wich reveals her body.

Ben (oinion) Beagle loves onions! I love this one. It's based on a vintage unused GPK spin-off concept called Garbage Pail Pets that was never completed. until now!

Finally here's Beatle Bill! This cutting room floor card (and don't forget STICKER!) features an unused vintage concept from the 80's newly painted by original GPK artist Tom Bunk!

I'm blown away by how awesome these are even when compared to the originals. I will certainly be picking up more of these packs. Definitely worth the single dollar I dropped for them. Can't wait to see what I get next!

Day 113 - Arcade Token Display! - 4/22/2015

So... I made a Thing today...

but not all of it yet.

You see it will take way more game tokens than I have to fill up the frame I bought.

There are plenty of tokens down here:

but not enough to fill up this area:

So I guess I need to get more tokens and fill up the top to finish it.

Or maybe arrange them artistically on some lush fabric backing?

Nah, I'd rather just fill it with more tokens.

(anybody want to donate to my Thing?)

This Thing is reminiscent of another Thing I made (back before I was labeling them as capital letter Things).

It's a shadowbox type frame that I fill with ticket stubs and fliers and programs from shows and the like.

I like stuff like this. Yay clutter!

A Collection of Common Background Songs: Part 4

(See part 1 , part 2, and part 3!)

Here's some more Common Background Songs!

1. "Sing Sing Sing" by Benny Goodman

This song is everywhere. If it's not "In the Mood" or one of the other songs on the previous parts of this list, it's this song about singing.

2. "The Sailors Hornpipe" by... somebody...

This song is played in Popeye cartoons a lot, I think, and any other funny shows involving sailors as well!

3. "The Pink Panther Theme" by Henry Mancini

This is one of my favorite songs. It is used when people are being sneaky and spy-like. You probably already know this song and hear it all the time.

4. "Peter Gunn Theme" by Henry Mancini

Another fun song that brings to mind spies and suits and dirty gin martinis.

5. "James Bond Theme" by Monty Norman.

If you don't know this song... um... why are you reading/listening to this list?

6. "Secret Agent Man" by Johnny Rivers

This song is forever connected to the James Bond theme in my mind.

7. "Linus and Lucy" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio

Another of my favorite songs. I love all things Peanuts and every single song Vince Guaraldi wrote and recorded for any of the specials.

8. "Christmas Time is Here" by Vince Guaraldi Trio

One of the saddest Christmas songs, and one of my favorite. I like it so much I covered it myself.

That's it for now! If I'm missing any songs in this list, please let me know in the comments so I can have a part 5!

What to do with the Stubs?

Look at that thing. Isn't it great? I got the idea from Pinterest.

For most of my life I've loved ticket stubs. Early on it was mostly movie ticket stubs because I didn't go to many other events that required tickets until I was a teenager. Then, as a teen, I started liking other kinds of ticket stubs as well.

But my love of ticket stubs didn't extend much beyond keeping them in coat pockets or my wallet until they fell apart or got lost. I didn't have any kind of real collection of stubs, but I didn't want to throw them away either. They weren't sacred items, just pleasant reminders of entertainments past.

I thought about collecting them in a scrapbook or one of those photo albums with the sticky cardboard pages that have a plastic film you lift, stick things to the page, and then trap them with the film, but ultimately they weren't important enough for me to keep track of them long enough for me to organize them.

Then I saw something very similar to the photos above on Pinterest.

I liked this idea. It was a way to collect ticket stubs without the hassle of arranging them in a scrapbook. It was a way to haphazardly display my love cum collection. It appealed to my love of clutter.

I desperately wanted to make one!

Princess Melawesome and I drove to Michaels and I spent more money than I probably should have on a shadow box.

I cut a hole in the back.

Then, unlike the collection box I saw on Pinterest, I covered my poorly-cut hole with a piece of fabric onto which I ironed an iron-on image of my favorite kind of tickets: the "Admit One" tickets.

And thus my Ticket Stub Collection was born!

It's not just ticket stubs. I also put any interesting programs from shows or lectures, lobby cards, or anything else that has to do with entertainments past that tickle my fancy. But there are also plenty of ticket stubs: lots of movies, concerts, the State Fair, and even some from the Disneyland FASTPASS!

My ticket stubs still spend days, weeks, even a couple months in my pockets or wallet before I remember to add them to the Collection, but they usually find their way before they get lost.

If you love ticket stubs, I encourage you to make one of your own!
