You can buy a box for me here! Click on these words! Before it's sold to someone else!

Until then I'll just have to dream....

BREAD!

Remember "Insomniac with Dave Attell"? I used to watch that show in college when it was first on Comedy Central. In the show Dave would travel around whatever city he was in to do his stand-up comedy, visiting all of the different places that were open, or at least running in some way, from late night through early morning.

If I remember correctly he went to a lot of places that made dough. I'm talking about cakes, cookies, pizza, but especially bread.

People starting to make bread at like 5, 4, 3 o'clock in the morning.

I always thought that sounded... nice.

It reminded me of a visualization activity one of my high school teachers had us do. He had us all close our eyes and imagine that it was 5 years in the future. It was early morning, we were the first one up in our house. How did we look? How did we feel? What did we do? Have breakfast? Coffee? Juice?

I don't remember the point of the activity, but I remember picturing myself with facial hair (which I did have 5 years later), drinking juice, looking at the paper, etc. Whatever else I did, I remembered it feeling peaceful.

In college my friend Chris and I would walk around Mitchell, SD late at night. We'd spend a lot of time talking. Usually we only went until 2 in the morning before we headed back to the dorms for sleep, but occasionally it would be longer. These were peaceful walks that helped us both sort a lot of things out.

When I saw people baking their bread at the time of night that Chris and I were often walking around the deserted streets of Mitchell, it reminded me of that visualization exercise. I started to think that I might like to learn to bake bread.

That was a good 11 years ago.

I've had that thought in my head all this time. Several years ago I bought a book about the Art of Baking Bread. I even started a sourdough starter:

I named it Squidward because he's so sour.

But I forgot to keep feeding it. It went moldy, and I wasn't sure if I could save it.

RIP Squidward Sourdough.

That was about a year ago.

On January 15, 2017 I set my alarm for early in the morning and made some straight dough bread!

It tasted pretty good! I think it would be better with white bread flour (I used whole wheat flour), but I really liked it!

It took a lot longer than I thought it would. But I want to keep doing it when I can.

Today, January 29, 2017, I baked my first loaf of sourdough bread!

I used my NEW batch of sourdough starter:

I named it Oscar because he, too, is sour.

That's supposed to be Oscar the Grouch peekin' out of his trashcan. This lid was a lot smaller and I started drawing it smaller than I meant to.

Anyway:

It didn't turn out as poofy as I though it would.

It's much more dense. I probably didn't fold it enough or something. I'll try something else next time.

I'M NOT LOOKING FOR TIPS, BREAD BAKING PEOPLE.

It took from 7:30 - 2:45 to make it, and I had to wait another 2 hours before I could cut into it.

It doesn't look like a professional sourdough loaf, but MAN does it taste good...

I will definitely be making more sourdough in the future!

Since I don't get paid for articles, here's a song I wrote a long time ago about junk food:

If you watch that enough times, I might get a penny.

Improv that Guittter.

I made a couple Guitprov songs recently.

This one's about Rider Strong who played Shawn Hunter on Boy Meets World.

I woke up the other day with a Dashboard Confessional song in my head. It wouldn't leave. So I got it out by trying to improvise a DC-style song.

Watch 'em!

My 2017 Tiny Desk Contest entry! "How Long Shall I Love You?" a new album! And a Fisher Price Record!

Here is my 2017 Tiny Desk Contest entry!

After I recorded that, I wrote and recorded this song:

So I could finish this album!

It's 14 songs long and comprised of all the songs I wrote and put up on youtube since I released "Rabbit Rabbit" about this time last year.

It's the darkest collection of songs I've ever written. I think that's because of... 2016.

Some of it is pretty good!

At the end of this new album is a song.

This song:

That's right! I turned the riff from my song "A Car Song" (the same song I entered into the Tiny Desk Contest) into a FISHER PRICE MUSIC BOX RECORD PLAYER RECORD!!!!!

I wrote an article a little over a year ago about making one of these. Click here to read it!

I'm proud of this!

It's a very simple song, but I found out how to do it!

Here are the instructions and software I used (created by Fred "fred27" Murphy): click here to learn how to make your own!

Here is the original version of the song:

2 New Songs! "A Better Day" and "*You're"!

A couple new sethifus songs!

One about seeing someone you don't wanna see.

And a love song in the vein of Charles Addams (the Addams Family).

I'm trying to write a few more songs. Partially because I want to enter the Tiny Desk Contest again this year, but I only have until the end of the month. But also because I'm putting the finishing touches on a new album!

Most of the songs are the ones I wrote during 2016, but the last four or five will be from 2017. Hopefully 14 songs in all. We'll see.

Rejected by the New Yorker Volume 6!

Here are 4 more comics I submitted to the New Yorker magazine. They finally let me know last night that they do not want them.

I really would like to get one into the magazine some time, but I'm not expecting it any time soon. I like to draw these.

New Song! "Won't You Please"!

Here's my new song!

It's probably the best song I've written!

But I always think that about new songs.

Who is the Doctor?!?!

You can get this mug here.

Here's the song video:

It recorded weird, but I mostly wanted the song for the other video so I left it weird.

If We Didn't Eat Cheesy Poofs...

I did it.

I ordered a box of Cheesy Poofs from 1998.

Here's the proof:

Did you watch it yet?

SPOILERS!

They were awful!

That was one of the worst tastes I've had in my mouth in a long time.

It tasted kinda dusty and kinda medicinal.

I do not recommend eating expired Cheesy Poofs.

Made Real: the Simpsons - Nuts and Gum, and SkittleBrau!

I love the Simpsons!

That's why I'm trying as hard as I can to make as much of the Simpson Universe real as possible!

So I made a couple videos.

In the first I make Nuts and Gum a reality:

It's gross!

In the second video I make Homer's dream beer: SkittleBrau!

(there are no pictures of SkittleBrau. It was never shown on screen)

SkittleBrau tastes really good!

I forgot to mention that the Skittles don't actually float in the beer! They stay at the bottom!

So Homer's true SkittleBrau will remain a dream drink.

Oh well.

That's it for now!
